Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz faced protesters as the Trump administration moves to rescind the 2001 Roadless Rule.
The proposal would remove nationwide Roadless Rule restrictions covering more than 44 million acres of national forest. USDA argues the change would give local forest managers greater flexibility to reduce wildfire risks and manage forests. Opponents argue the rollback could expose currently protected areas to more roads, logging and development. �
