UK government urges people not to protest due to COVID-19

The health secretary has asked Britons not to participate in ‘Black Lives Matter’ demonstrations this weekend, citing concerns about the lack of social distancing and increased transmission of COVID-19.

Although protests at Hyde Park were labelled as a socially-distanced event, this proved to be impossible due to the size of crowds.

Health professionals have pleaded for people to wear masks and stay two metres apart if they are still determined to attend.
