Net Migration has fallen more sharply than expected in recent years – driven by nearly 260,000 Brits leaving the country, new figures show.
Improved methods by the Office for National Statistics suggest net migration hit a higher and slightly earlier peak of 944,000 in the year ending March 2023, compared with the previous estimate of 906,000 for the year ending June 2023.
But this was followed by a sharper fall than the initial data reported, with net migration in the year ending December 2024 now estimated to be 345,000, lower than the original estimate of 431,000 that was published by the ONS in May of this year.
Nick Ferrari asked LBC listeners to give their analysis on why Brits are leaving.
0:01 | James: ‘It’s not just non-dots, it’s also my daughter.’
1:39 | Kevin: ‘A working man can’t live in Dubai, Nick!’
3:33 | Bianca: ‘The people leaving are like the small boat migrants.’
7:12 | Dave: ‘My daughter left and she’s a success story.’
9:08 | Stephen: ‘It all comes back to inequality.’
