Labour will give police new powers to impose restrictions on repeat protests, after nearly 500 arrests at pro-Palestine demonstrations.

Senior officers can now consider the “cumulative impact” of previous protests and move events elsewhere if sites face repeated disruption. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said this is “not a ban but about conditions.”

Protest group Defend Our Juries vowed a “major escalation” in response.

Mahmood said she understood the anger in the Jewish community and vowed to strengthen community relations and ensure a strong government response.
