The offences committed by David Carrick, who today admitted attacking a dozen women over a 17-year period, are shocking.

The failure of the police to uphold basic standards within the ranks is now a familiar one, with the Met conceding they missed numerous opportunities to stop his ‘unprecedented’ offending.
