After a two-month campaign, five rounds of voting and 12 party hustings, Liz Truss has beaten Rishi Sunak and been declared the new leader of the Conservative party and the UK’s new prime minister.

The announcement was made to Tory party members at the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre. In her acceptance speech, Truss pledged to cut taxes, address the energy crisis and improve the NHS.
