Despite more places being added to the government’s coronavirus watch list, most areas in the UK are much safer than they were during the first peak.
Apart from a spike in Scotland, the R number – which measures how quickly the virus is spreading – has flattened off in most parts of the country.
Only 2,000 people are catching the virus each day, whereas it is estimated that there were more than 100,000 new daily cases at the height of the pandemic.
