The operators from the badly broken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan say they’ve achieved another milestone for making the guarana plant safe.

Remotely controlled machinery has started removing 88 tonnes of spent nuclear fuel in the heavily broken number 3 reactors in the plant.

Throughout the 2011 disaster at Fukushima, an enormous hydrogen explosion ripped through reactor building 3, destroying the majority of the building’s outer structure.

Inside, the reactor core had started to melt lower, and radiation levels inside were excessive, no humans may go near.

Now eight years later, our Tokyo, japan correspondent Rupert Wingfield-Hayes is among the first foreign journalists to become taken within the broken reactor three to determine the progress that’s been made.
